Background
In this UX design case study, I will discuss the project that helped me learn about a subgroup of the population that is often overlooked. The goal of the project was to find a mobile solution that helps users track and manage their medications and prescriptions. Through this case study, I will walk you through my design process, from problem identification to the final implementation.
Challenges
Keeping track of multiple medications. Remembering precise timings and dosages. Ensuring loved ones are on track with their prescriptions.
Solutions
User Research
To gain a deep understanding of the target user's needs, I conducted the following activities:
01. User Interview: I conducted interviews with both users of similar products (Medisafe & Cute Pill Remainder) and potential users of the application (users 65+, users with medical conditions, users with prescriptions) to gather insights about their pain points, preferences, and expectations.
02. Expert Consulting: I consulted with pharmacy technicians and pharmacists to understand the necessary criteria that needed to be filled.
03. Competitive Analysis: I analyzed other prescription tracking and nutrition tracking apps to understand their strengths and weaknesses. This helped identify the gaps in the market that my design could address.User
04. Persona Development: Based on the interview data and research, I created user personas to represent the primary user groups and their goals.
Design Concepts
Armed with valuable user insights, I brainstormed ideas to improve the application’s design. The following steps were taken:
Dashboard (Landing)
On the dashboard the user can see their recently taken drugs so that overlap doesn’t occur. The main section on the screen tracks the user’s progress throughout the day — gamifying the experience.
